Volkswagen to Unveil ‘21st Century Beetle’ Later Today
Volkswagen is set to unveil what it calls the “21st Century Beetle” at three separate events around the world later today at 6.22pm EST.
The car itself will be debuted at a Shanghai event, and Volkswagen has teamed up with MTV World Stage to bring a series of promotional events to Berlin and New York City.
The 21st Century Beetle “reinterprets the silhouette” of the iconic car and adds state-of-the-art technology, the automaker said in a statement.
“We are taking the new Volkswagen directly to customers and fans of the Volkswagen brand—and we are doing it globally,” marketing director of the company Luca de Meo said.
At the MTV World Stage event in New York, The Black Eyed Peas will perform, while at the Berlin event, Belgian duo 2manydjs will take the stage. Both events will be streamed live at the World Stage website (however, both are unavailable to UK residents).
“The Beetle is an icon of the automotive world, just like MTV is an icon of the music world,” de Meo said.
