Groupon Launches New Feature to Change Eating, Shopping Habits
Groupon has launched the Groupon Now service that hopes to change people’s eating and shopping habits. The new feature will be embedded in the Groupon iPhone and Android apps.
The feature works by serving to users time- and location-based deals depending on the user’s geographical location. Users can pick between enigmatically-titled categories like “Eat something” or “Have fun”, which will then display the different deals that fall under the categories.
Part of the draw for businesses signing up to Groupon Now is how it can draw customers in on otherwise slow times, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
Not only can this help eliminate perishables for restaurants, but Groupon Now can help alleviate last-minute problems; for example, a spa can send out a deal when a customer canceled a visit.
Currently, Groupon Now is only available in Chicago, where the company has its headquarters, but Mashable speculates it “won’t be long” until the service hits other cities around the world.
