The walls may have ears, but these stoops have full faces. As part of street artist JR’s TED Prize wish, Inside Out, residents in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn have begun slapping their mugs on the stoops of their homes.
The portraits, of business owners and community members, are aimed at celebrating local shop owners “who are the foundation of our neighborhood and community”, the participants wrote on the Inside Out website.
Announced in March, Inside Out is a participatory art project encouraging people to upload portraits of themselves onto the project website, which JR will them turn into a poster. The posters will then be mailed back to the creators for them to exhibit in their own communities.
