Using Only Sounds from a Dieter Rams Clock, Musician Records Album
Inspired by Dieter Rams’ 10-point design manifesto, musician Jon Brooks (known more prominently as The Advisory Circle) recorded a nine-track album titled Music for Dieter Rams using only the sounds from the Braun design legend’s AB-30 alarm clock.
“Using inexpensive contact microphones…I recorded the alarm sound, the various ‘ticks’ of the second hand as it made its way around the clock face, and usually unheard noises such as the cogs whirring and the harmonics of the spring-loaded snooze button,” Brooks wrote in the album sleeve notes.
