Apple Reaches Deal with Record Labels for iTunes Cloud Service

Apple has inked deals with three major record labels that will allow users of its much-anticipated iTunes service to store and stream their songs via the cloud, reports Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.

The upcoming service follows Google and Amazon’s leads in setting up so-called digital lockers. Using this model, users can store media on Apple’s servers rather than loading them up on iPods.

The three labels involved in the deals are Sony’s music division, EMI Group and Warner Music Group. Universal Music Group, the largest recording company, is close to a deal, according to Bloomberg.

The iTunes offering may be unveiled as early as June, when Apple is holding its annual developer’s conference, reports Bloomberg.
