Facebook Wants Under-13s in its Network: Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said recently he wants children under 13 to use the social networking phenomenon, no matter that it’s against the law.

Zuckerberg said he is willing to fight to change the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act in the US because of the “educational benefits” of using Facebook, reports the BBC.

“My philosophy is that for education you need to start at a really, really young age,” Zuckerberg was quoted as saying. “Because of the [legal] restrictions we haven’t even begun this learning process. If they’re lifted then we’d start to learn what works.”

However, despite the law, there are currently 7.5 million Facebook users who are under 13, according to a Consumer Reports study. The danger in this, said the buying guide, is that minors are susceptible to malware, bullying and predators.
