SHIFT Magazine Announces Calendar Competition, DOTMOV Festival

For young designers and artists looking to jumpstart their careers, Japanese magazine SHIFT has announced it will be accepting entries to its annual calendar competition and digital film festival DOTMOV.

The calendar competition has no direct theme, so interested participants can create their calendars according to any subject they choose. For the 2011 competition, a more than 1,600 entries from 35 countries were submitted (see the calendar cover above).

Designers can start submitting their pieces starting 15 June through 20 August 2011.

Together with the calendar competition, SHIFT is also issuing a call for entry to its annual DOTMOV Festival, which is looking for young talents to submit digital animation, design or music clips to be screened at the festival’s international venues from November onwards.

Judges for the selection process include New York-based artist and musician Yoshi Sodeoka, creative director Ian Anderson and graphic designer Hideki Inaba, among others.

For DOTMOV, filmmakers have until 10 September to submit their work.
