The 2006 West Virginia Governor's School for the Arts brings
80 high school juniors together to study for three weeks on the campus of Marshall University. The event lasts through July 22.
Students will spend the mornings studying in their major disciplinary studies, including instrumental music, vocal music, theater, dance, visual arts and creative writing. In the afternoons, students will participate in interdisciplinary studies, where they focus on the other five disciplines.
The three-week residential experience will hit a high for the students during a three-day field trip to New York City where students will have the opportunity to visit many landmarks, including Ellis Island, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Radio City Music Hall. The students will also get to experience the Broadway musical "Wicked," Larry Stickler, professor of music in Marshall's College of Fine Arts and dean of the School for the Arts, said last week.
