On Beaches, Artist Etches Transient Crop Circles

Jim Denevan, the artist responsible for creating the world’s largest artwork when he etched a nine square mile piece in Siberia, also applies his geometric patterns to the beaches of North California.

The artist uses simple tools—rakes and sticks—and a couple of hours to put together stunning shapes that are at once sublime and transient; it will only take incoming waves a few minutes to erase all of Denevan’s toil.
