Public Input Wanted on New Design Options for Downtown Bridge
Fort Wayne --  Construction won't start for several more years, but Thursday night residents got a chance to see plans to redesign a bridge into downtown Fort Wayne.  The Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Bridge over the St. Mary's River on Clinton Street was built in the 1960's.  It's structurally sound, but as part of the downtown revitalization plan, city leaders want to upgrade its appearance.

Greg Mesaros, the Director of Public Works for the city of Fort Wayne, says, "Literally hundreds of thousands of visitors and vehicles travel over this bridge. It would give the community something to celebrate more, enhance the festivals, enhance the pedestrian experience and safety crossing the bridge.  This is an important link between Headwaters Park and Lawton Park and other areas of our urban community."

Community leaders have selected two options they feel best represent how the bridge could serve as a new signature gateway to downtown.  The public's encouraged to learn more about the recommendations and provide feedback.
