Ridley Scott, director of the famed movie, is set to revisit his cyberpunk roots for Alcon Entertainment, according to several reports. Producers are still figuring out what the story will be, and if it will be a prequel or a sequel, reports Reuters.
One thing’s for sure: the new Blade Runner will not be a remake.
“This is arguable the greatest science fiction movie ever made and we’re not remaking it,” producer and Alcon co-founder Andrew Kosove told Reuters. “The idea was always to go right to Ridley and that’s exactly what we did.”
Kosove added Scott was hired to lend seriousness to the effort and to give fans a “level of comfort”. It is still undecided if Harrison Ford will return to star, but Kosove said he “[does] not anticipate it”.
“There will be one more announcement we will make before we go dark for awhile,” the producer was quoted as saying. “We have to figure out who the writer is going to be and a general framework for the movie.”
