The first video depicts the @-replies traveling in and out of Japan as “people reached out to friends, family and loved ones” in the one-hour period after the disaster struck. Replies directed to users in Japan are colored pink, and messages directed at others from Japan are colored yellow:
The second clip displays the worldwide retweets of tweets that originated in Japan in the one-hour period after the earthquake. Original tweets are colored red, and retweets are colored green:
