A member of Japanese girl group AKB48 has been revealed to be a computer graphic, reports the Guardian.
AKB48‘s 58th member—the band holds the Guinness record for being the world’s largest pop group—was introduced in early June. Eguchi Aimi then made magazine covers and also endorses a brand of snack food in Japan; the life of a regular pop star—except Aimi isn’t exactly real.
Aimi was revealed to be computer generated (see video below), a composite of six other members of the band, reports the Guardian. AKB48 then launched a web app that lets users create their own Eguchi Aimi by mixing and matching facial features from the group’s members.
The digital creation is somewhat similar to another Japanese pop star, Hatsune Miku, a singing and dancing holograph.
