Why Do People Follow Brands on Social Media?
What makes people ‘Like’ a brand on Facebook? Or follow the brand’s tweets? For most people, it’s about getting in on special offers or deals, according to an infographic from customer relationship management company Get Satisfaction.

The company conducted a survey and found the next best thing for brands to get people flocking to their social media accounts is to create "interesting or entertaining content". Almost all of the survey respondents said an online experience influenced whether or not they bought a product or service from the brand.

However, fans don’t necessarily become customers; Get Satisfaction found that only about 17% of fans end up at the checkout counter:
