Beyonce’s performance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards and her subsequent reveal of her pregnancy broke the previous Twitter record.
The singer garnered a whopping 8,868 tweets-per-second (TPS) to beat the previous record of 7,196 TPS noted during the women’s soccer World Cup final between the US and Japan.
Beyonce performed her song “Love on Top”, concluding the number by rubbing her pregnant belly.
In total, the R&B singer notched up 280,000 mentions on the micro-blogging website to be the ‘top tweeted’ celebrity of the night, according to MTV’s own statistics. Following Beyonce is Lady Gaga with 237,000 mentions, The Throne (183,000) and Adele (159,000).
