There Could Be More to a Receipt


Turning something either almost always thrown away or tucked away into wallets and purses, BERG has rethought the common paper receipt.

Through exploring underused aspects of technology while keeping to traditional print methods, BERG has changed the humble paper receipt into something practical.

While information on purchases have been kept the same, “the rest of the receipt turns the functional aspects into something fun to look at while you’re waiting for your order,” BERG told ICON MAGAZINE.

The redesigned receipt also displays data visualizations of “what the till knows”, for example the calorie count of the customer’s purchased groceries. The customer can also personalize the receipt to include news headlines or Google calendar dates, for example.

BERG also included what it called a “fortune cookie aspect”: snippets, fun facts and conversation starters. This could be the new Snapple bottle cap fun facts, or “something like a paper ‘app’ and be valuable in small and playful ways”, BERG said.
