The death of Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs has garnered the highest number of tweets per second, with a record of 10,000 tweets per second, and a total of 2.5 million tweets.
The news about the former CEO gained 13,284 blog posts, 25,704 message board posts, and 30,905 news mentions—in part, symbolizing how many lives he’s touched through his work.
This exceeds Beyonce’s pregnancy news of 8,686 tweets per second, and has attracted the largest online reaction.
Keywords surrounding Jobs’ death range from sadness, to praises, and mentions of his innovations.
A simple tribute (image above) created by 19-year-old Hong Kong design student Jonathan Mak also attracted over 4,400 likes and 1,125 comments.
The image incorporates Jobs’ silhouette into the bite of Apple’s logo—symbolize both his departure and lingering presence at the core of the company.
"I just wanted it to be a very quiet commemoration. It's just this quiet realization that Apple is now missing a piece. It's just kind of implying his absence," Mak said.
