Angry Birds Movie Begins to Hatch
Rovio is adding support to its Angry Birds movie dream by enlisting former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel, who was instrumental in bringing Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk to the big screen, reports Variety.

Maisel will be a special advisor to Rovio and will help the company turn Angry Birds into a large entertainment franchise.

“There has been so much chatter about an Angry Birds movie, but it’s now real,” he told Variety. Maisel has already begun speaking to screenwriters and directors on the Angry Birds movie, and he will be the film’s executive producer, reports Variety.

Angry Birds, which started off as an iPhone game, is now an entertainment phenomenon in its own right. It has been downloaded more than 250 million times, has a plush toy range dedicated to its characters and even got a taste of Hollywood when it partnered the film Rio.

Rovio CEO Mikael Hed told Variety: “We’re building a media company and have always been interested in moving further into the entertainment space.”

Hed and fellow Rovio executives pitch their company as a future Pixar, and right now, they’re hoping a couple of colored birds will catapult them there.
