Simon Monk’s Secret Identity series of photorealistic paintings depict plastic figurines of superheroes, each trapped in a clear polythene bag.

“The bag conceals the superhero who in turn conceals their alter ego,” the artist wrote on his website. “These observations may be seen as roughly analogous to the situation of the painter. The visual fantasies which fill a painter’s head must inevitably be reduced to an image, robbed of much of their super power.”
