Using Thousands Of Matchsticks, Artist Creates Sculptures

UK-based artist David Mach used thousands of matchsticks to create sculptures, then burns them and leaves them charred.

Mach uses matches imported from Japan for their colored heads, and sticks them into clay mold—forming real and fictional characters, such as Betty Boop, Charlie Chaplin, and Marilyn Monroe.

At exhibitions, after selling some of his sculptures at galleries, Mach sets aside a few to be burnt down.
