Gmail is Getting a Facelift

The new look of Gmail is cleaner and more refined.

Google is changing the design for its Gmail service, as “part of a Google-wide effort to bring you an experience that’s more focused, elastic and effortless”.

The new theme focuses on elements, such as the sizes and shapes of ‘Compose’ buttons, ‘search’ buttons, and navigation controls.

Users can now take a sneak peak by tweaking their inbox ‘theme’ settings: go to “Settings”, click into the “Themes” tab, and at the bottom the two new themes “Preview” and “Preview (dense)” can be seen. Users may choose either one to change their inbox layout to something more à la mode.

The ‘Compose’ button is now red, and the layout remains focused and clean-cut.

Red, white, and gray currently make up the color scheme, but Google mentions that additional theme and colour options – such as dark themes, alternative palettes, and illustrations – would be available in the future.

Google will also be redesigning its Google Calendar.
