For this year’s Super Bowl, Volkswagen has—yet again—created a 60-second spot referring to Star Wars, to give viewers a taste of what they can expect on Game Day.
The teaser ‘The Bark Side’, by agency Deustch LA, features a dozen canines accessorized to look like characters from the sci-fi classic, doing a rendition of the ‘Imperial March’ (Darth Vader’s theme from the Star Wars).
It starts off with eleven dogs of various breeds—dressed like Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C3PO, R2D2 and an Ewok—seated in a spaceship-like set from the film, barking a canine chorus of everyone’s favorite death march.
Towards the end of the video, an Italian greyhound dressed up as an AT/AT (the giant armored walking vehicles of The Empire, in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back) struts across the screen.
The teaser ends with a tagline that says: “Back. And better than ever.”
It is suspected that Volkswagen’s 60-second spot on Game Day is expected to feature the brand’s Beetle', according to Advertising Age.
