Disney has come up with a Mickey Mouse T-shirt inspired by wait for it—Joy Division, now on sale in its webstore.
Intentional or not, this design appears to have caught the attention of more than just enthusiasts keen on memorabilia.
The subversive nature of the design itself is hard to ignore.
Indeed, displaying a band whose frontman hanged himself with a brand typically associated with notions of childlike happiness seems to invoke some kind of perverse irony.
According to their online store, the description of the T-shirt reads:
"Inspired by the iconic sleeve of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album, this Waves Mickey Mouse Tee incorporates Mickey's image within the graphic of the pulse of a star. That's appropriate given few stars have made bigger waves than Mickey!"
We’re praying it’s a joke but as it turns out, the t-shirts have all sold out.
