Google Releases ‘Public Alerts’, An Emergency Service

Google has releasedGoogle Public Alerts’, a new service to bring you public safety/emergency alerts relevant to your Google Maps searches.

As part of its Google Crisis Response project, the team hopes that Public Alerts would bring its users critical emergency information during a crisis.

“Our goal is to surface emergency information through the online tools you use everyday, when that information is relevant and useful,” Google’s team wrote.

Relevant weather, public safety, and earthquake alerts—from US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service, and the US Geological Survey—will be accessible when users search on Google Maps.

Alerts would come up in both Google Maps searches, as well as on the Google Public Alerts homepage, http://www.google.org/publicalerts.
