To Help Correct Back Posture, Designer Hacks A Pair Of Suspenders

We’re all guilty of bad posture, and bad posture may cause long-term damage to your health.

Designer Tobias Sonne has prototyped a pair of suspenders that helps its users correct their posture.

The ‘Posture Suspenders’ is a normal pair of suspenders with a piece of stretchable conductive fabric, a vibrator, and an Arduino Pro Mini sewed on to it.

When the Posture Suspenders senses that its wearer is slouching, it would alert the wearer with vibration alerts—as a constant nagging reminder to sit up straight, and hopefully help its wearer develop muscle memory for correct posture and changes in their behavior.

Unlike current products out in the market, Sonne’s device does not require recalibration every time users change positions.

Instead, the device uses the resistance of the stretchable conductive fabric—which also makes it less expensive.

“The conductive fabric changes its resistance based on the stretch of the fabric, which is used to determine the users posture,” Sonne wrote. “The conductive fabric will be loose (low resistance) when the user is slouching, and vice versa when the user has a correct posture.”
