Indianapolis-based photographer Steven Schubert series titled ‘Spinning Wool’ is an impressive, if not dramatic collection of sparks.
While Schubert draws on the usual technique of lighting steel wool on fire and spinning it in circles to create showers of red hot sparks, it is his choice of backgrounds that proves effective.
Schubert says that he had "an ample supply of abandoned industrial spaces" which inspired him "to find an art form that is adapted to this context."
According to him again, he juxtaposes the images of combustion with former industrial settings, to remember “the old days, when fire was a tool and means of production”.
