Artist Typewrites Her Way Into Art
British artist Keira Rathbone creates artistic representations of architecture, people and landscapes, using just a typewriter.
Based in London, Rathbone bought her first typewriter eight years ago and is now a celebrated artist of the ‘typewriting art’.
In this digital age, Rathbone creates images from mere letters and symbols, with each piece taking her up to 90 hours to produce.
She owns some 30 vintage typewriters from all over the world. Rathbone is also a walking example of her art, choosing to dress appropriate to the era her typewriter was manufactured.
According to Rathbone, each typewriter is “a different set of tools with different effects”.
