LEGO-enthusiasts, there is now a more eco-friendly alternative to the classic toy building block.
Japanese firm Colors Tokyo has created Earth Blocks, LEGO-like blocks made of cedar tree bark, compressed dust from sawn cedar logs, coffee beans, green tea leaves, and other recycled materials—and have been blended with polypropylene for rigidity.
The blocks come in green and brown shades—not reds, yellows, blues or whites like LEGO—and don’t snap on as tightly as LEGO do.
Earth Blocks also give off a natural fragrance, come only in bricks of one size, and are softer around the edges than the classic toy.
Each box of 50 blocks costs US$30.
