PayPal Trials QR-Code Shopping On Walls Of Underground Subway Stations
Paypal is currently testing a new mobile shopping experience that allows its customers to purchase items using QR codes at underground metro stations.
The online payment service company has created virtual outlets of ‘mobile shopping walls’ at 15 subway stations in Singapore.
The walls feature Valentine’s Day offers from eight participating retailers, according to PSFK.
Users have to first download a QR code reader app, then scan the barcodes with the app, and log in to PayPal to purchase the items.
According to KamCity, PayPal selected Singapore for the trial, as its subways have full-wireless access—allowing consumers to go directly to e-commerce sites to buy products.
The company also said that “smartphone penetration in Singapore is nearly 70%”.
