California-based design firm Roxy Russell has created a series of jellyfish-inspired lamps titled ‘The Medusae Collection’ made out of recyclable plastic.
Drawing inspiration from certain species of jellyfish that produce bioluminescence light from their bodies, these fluid designs features luminous tendrils hanging down from the lamp.
"Jellyfish are perhaps the best example of environmental adaptation in the ocean. They are composed of 95 percent water,” says Russel. “Unparalleled in diaphanous luminosity, they are also a natural inspiration for lighting elements”.
