Soon, You’ll Be Able To Order McDonald’s Through Your Car’s GPS

In Japan, McDonald’s is testing out a new ordering system that allows hungry motorists to order food using their car navigation systems—en route to the drive-thru restaurant.
A group of 26 companies—such as McDonald’s Holdings Co (Japan) and Highway Indsutry Development Organization—have collaborated to test out the new service.
From 5-16 March 2012 in Ibaraki Prefecture, eight cars will be used to test the intelligent transport system (ITS) devices.
When the cars come into a certain distance of a restaurant, drivers will be able to browse menus, order food, and pay with their credit cards.
Users can also pick the nearest restaurants to pick up their food, which they will be guided to.
Japan’s ITS devices are already used to provide traffic information to drivers, according to Japan Trends.
The system hopes to reduce waiting times and attract customers who dislike waiting in lines.
