IKEA Launches Fully-Furnished, Pre-Fab Homes
Swedish furniture giant IKEA has teamed up with Oregon-based architecture firm Ideabox to launch IKEA’s first line of prefabricated houses in the U.S. called ‘Aktiv’ (Swedish for active).
The one-bedroom homes took into consideration the demands of residents in the area and true to IKEA style, carry a hip and modern look.
Designed to be eco-friendly, they also feature facilities like dual-flush toilets and energy-star electronics.
The exteriors are built using a combination of fiber-cement siding, corrugated metal, and a standing-seam metal roof.
According to Jim Russell, president of Ideabox, the complete home “brings all the fun and design of Ideabox houses together with all the function, design, and personality of IKEA".
The homes are furnished with a complete IKEA package that includes Tundra maple flooring, Pax wardrobes, and Abstrakt cabinets.
A model of the home was on display at the Portland Home & Garden Show and each unit is expected to be priced at US$79,500.
