A Watch That Operates On ‘Indian Timing’
Mumbai-based designer Prasanna Sankhe of Indian Creative Studio Hyphen has come up with a watch that operates on ‘Indian timing’.
Called the ‘Indian stretchable watch’ or ‘ish watch’ for short, the timepiece plays on the Indian idea of time, punctuality not being their priority, according to the designer.
The wristwatch’s numbers are shifted slightly from their normal place and display the prefix ‘-ish’, giving time periods ambiguity.
Sankhe explains: “In India, 'fashionably late' is safely replaced with 'predictably late'. Cow blockades, politician escorts, and cratered roads, compound the problem and offer a valid excuse.”
Thus, Sankhe decided to conceptualize a watch based on this “life insight” and added “dark humor” to it.
The watch is available for sale here.
