To Illustrate Food Waste, Photographer Captures Decaying Food

As a response to a United Nations study that says one-third of all food products in the world go to waste, Austrian photographer Klaus Pichler has captured food that has gone past their expiry dates.

His photo essay titled ‘One Third’ has him capturing various food products from all over the word in various degrees of decomposition—from rotting eggs to maggots-infected tomatoes and strawberries.

Through his gross yet artistic and visually-appealing images, Pichler hopes to invoke uneasiness in the viewer and perhaps, compel him to not waste food.
