Artist Transforms Old Bricks Into Classic Books
Melbourne-based artist Daryl Fitzgerald has given the city’s old bricks a new lease of life by transforming them into antique books.
In his collection titled ‘Light Reading’, Fitzgerald stencils bricks on both sides with titles of literary classics—from To Kill a Mockingbird to Wind in the Willows.
The faux literature heavyweights, literally, are meant to reflect the direct relationship between a book’s weight to its gravitas, says Fitzgerald.
“Light Reading gains inspiration from our collective perception of heavy literature, whimsically evoking nostalgia for a time when libraries were cavernous worlds full of beautifully bound tomes, silence and time,” he adds.
