Bill Passed Bans Employers From Demanding Facebook, Twitter Passwords

In Maryland, a state in eastern US, a bill has been passed that keeps Facebook and Twitter passwords safe from employers.
Bill 433, entitled ‘Labor and Employment – User Name and Password Privacy Protection and Exlusions’, “prohibits an employer from requesting or requiring that an employee or applicant disclose any user name, password, or other means for accessing a personal account or service through specified electronic communications devices; prohibiting an employer from taking, or threatening to take, specified disciplinary actions for an employee's refusal to disclose specified password and related information; prohibiting an employee from downloading specified information or data; etc.”, the synopsis of the bill said.
“In a nutshell, it protects employees and employers. It prohibits employees from having to provide access to their password-protected digital content or social media account information,” Bradley Shear, a Maryland social media lawyer who worked to help get the bill passed, told ABC News.
According to ABC News, other states—Minnesota, Illinois, Washington, Massachusetts, and New Jersey—have either also drafted legislations similar to that of Maryland’s bill, or announced intentions to introduce a similar law.
