Philips Kitchen Concept Converts Waste Into Energy
The design team at Philips has developed a kitchen concept called the ‘Microbial Home Probe’ system that uses biological process to convert waste into energy.
Aimed at developing a green domestic ecosystem, the kitchen concept features a ‘bio-digester’ kitchen island that uses bacteria to generate gas.
Made from copper, cast iron, glass and bamboo, the island possesses a vegetable grinder and bacteria culture that lives on organic waste and produces methane gas.
The waste material can come in the form of vegetable scraps and even bathroom waste solids i.e. your poo!
The gas is then collected, burned, and fed to a cooking range and gas mantle lights. It can also be used to preheat water pipes leading to other parts of the house.
