Perfume That Lets You Smell Like Books

For the love of books— Wallpaper* magazine, German publisher Gerhard Steidl, perfume designer Geza Schoen and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld have created a scent that smells like “freshly-printed books”.

Called ‘Paper Passion’, the fragrance was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s passion for paper and love for the composition of scents on pages of a book.

Lagerfeld was quoted saying: “The smell of a freshly-printed book is the best smell in the world.”

“This is an opportunity to celebrate all the glorious sensuality of books, at a time when many in the industry are turning against them,” Steidl writes. “The idea is that it should relax you, like when you read a book, to a level a meditation and concentration.”

“Paper Passion has evolved into something quite beautiful and unique. To wear the smell of a book is something very chic. Books are players in the intellectual world, but also in the world of luxury.”

With no surprise, the perfume comes in a book-like packaging, hidden within the pages—and accompanied with texts from Karl Lagerfeld, Günter Grass, Geza Schoen and Tony Chambers.
