Big crowd Expected for Arts Festival

Organisers are predicting up to 40,000 people will attend the Mackay Festival of Arts in north Queensland this year.

The festival, which starts on Thursday, is putting on 40 events over 11 days with more than 100 artists taking part.

The economic impact is expected to exceed $2 million spent in Mackay.

Festival coordinator Raylene McAuley says last preparations are all on track.

"We've actually just been speaking to the company that's coming in to put up the infrastructure, so they'll actually start putting things up on site from Wednesday onwards and of course our parks and gardens grounds people have been busily working for the last couple of weeks in readiness for the weekend - we're also finalising stall holders, all of our performers are all booked and organised," she said.
