This YouTube Video will Take You 23 Days to Finish
By Video / IO, 29 Jul 2011
In what could possibly be the longest YouTube video, Jonathan Harchick’s effort clocks in at an almost unbelievable 571 hours, one minute and 41 seconds—about 23 days in total.
Not that the video is riveting. It’s just a slideshow of extremely pixellated images of a trip to Chile Harchick took a few years ago, but the iPhone designer admits the video was more an example of technical prowess than an artistic one, reports the Huffington Post.
“To me, the challenge was about the compression,” he told HuffPo. “Putting that long of a video of YouTube requires a lot of compression because the site only allows 20 gigabytes. There’s a lot of work that went into this, but I think only the tech nerds will recognize the effort.”
Harchick said he was inspired by Andy Warhol’s eight-hour film Empire, a silent, black-and-white movie of the Empire State Building.
The designer is challenging other tech-savvy filmmakers to beat his video’s length, although he himself has yet to watch his creation. “I do believe that if you watch the entire clip, it will change your life—and not in a good way,” he said.
