LEGO Celebrates Its 80th Anniversary With A Short Animated Film
To celebrate its 80th anniversary, LEGO has released a short animated film based on the company’s history—describing the life of its founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen and his son Godtfred.
Called ‘The LEGO Story’, it’s told from the perspective of Ole’s grandson and current owner, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, and he describes the many tribulations that Ole and Godtfred faced since the company’s founding in 1932—including surviving bankruptcy and two factory fires.
Kjeld recounts how the company started as a small carpenter’s workshop making wooden toys before transiting to plastics toys, which they sold to nearby towns.
He also reveals how the name ‘LEGO’ was formed and the evolution of their iconic interlocking bricks.
