When This Camera Sees Your Face, It Checks You In On Facebook
By Anthea Quay, 13 Aug 2012
Nashville-based ad agency Red Pepper Land has created a system that automatically checks you in at any business location, and gives you a discount, when it identifies your face.
Called ‘Facedeals’, the system first requires Facebook users to authorize the app via their Facebook account.
Users have to verify their most recent photo tags, so that the system can map the physical appearance of their faces.
With facial-recognition cameras installed at local businesses, when patrons enter the location, they would be recognized and be checked in at the location on Facebook.
Simultaneously, based on their ‘Like’ history, the system would also send them customized deals through smartphone notifications.
What do you think of this system—an invasion of privacy, or Facebook check-ins of the future?
Currently, Facedeals is still undergoing testing in Nashville.
