Photographer Shoots Dubai in Retro-Future Light

Martin Becka’s series Transmutations was shot in 2008, but in it, the city of Dubai looks as though it was conjured in the sci-fi inflected mind of Fritz Lang during the thirties.

To achieve the otherworldly effect, Becka used camera equipment and techniques from the 19th century: paper negatives, a view camera from 1857, copper plates and handmade paper prints.
