Microsoft Unveils New Logo
By John Yong, 23 Aug 2012
It has been 25 years since they last updated the company logo, but Microsoft feels now is the perfect time to throw it ‘out the window’.
The new revamped Microsoft logo has replaced the four colored ‘wavy’ symbols with squares—similar to the Windows 8 logo.
The typeface has also been changed to the ‘Segoe’ font—the same font they use in their products and marketing communications.
According to Microsoft’s Jeffrey Meisner, he said that this is one of the many changes the company will be making in anticipation of their Windows 8 launched.
“From Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Xbox services to the next version of Office, you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs.”
“This wave of new releases is not only a reimaging of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning.”
Starting from today, Microsoft will be using their new logo more prominently—having already replaced the logo on their website.
The new logo will also be featured in three Microsoft retail stores in Boston, Seattle University Village and Bellevue, Washington—with the rest of their stores to follow suit in the “next few months”.
