Calculate How Much The ‘Tooth Fairy’ Should Be Giving Your Kids
It is a known fact that inflation affects mortgage payments and grocery bills—but it’s a common misconception that inflation doesn’t affect the amount the Tooth Fairy gives children.
Global payments technology company Visa has created an app to help parents determine how much the ‘Tooth Fairy’ should leave for their children’s teeth—so that kids avoid feeling unfairly-given when comparing their tooth’s worth at playgrounds.
The ‘Tooth Fairy Calculator’ comes in the form of a free iOS app and online tool.
Based on demographics—such as age, gender, location, income and education levels—the app determines the right amount your kids should get from the Tooth Fairy, in exchange for a pearly white.
According to a survey by Visa, the Tooth Fairy is leaving an average of US$3 per tooth this year—up 15% from last year.
“The Tooth Fairy may be the canary in the economic coal mine. She’s showing signs of life by leaving 40-cents more per tooth this year,” Jason Alderman, Senior Director of Global Financial Education, Visa Inc., said in a statement. “This is not only good news for kids, but an ideal teachable moment for parents to engage their children in thinking about how to budget their windfall by saving a portion.
The calculator was released as part of Visa’s free financial education program, Practical Money Skills for Life.
