McDonald’s Introduces Black And White Burgers In China

Fast-food giant McDonald’s has introduced a pair of black and white burgers in China—symbolizing the good and evil in Chinese politics.

According to The Beijinger, there's an interesting explanation to the odd pairing: “...a colleague informed us they're a play on a Chinese phrase 'heibai liangdao tongchi (黑白两道通吃)', which describes people who are so well-connected with both the government (that's the white side) and organized crime ('black society', as it's called in Chinese) that they can 'eat from both sides'. In other words, someone who has a foot in both camps.”

The black burger contains a beef patty with chopped onions, black pepper sauce and a bun topped with white sesame seeds—while the white burger has a chicken patty with sweet and spicy sauce and a black sesame-topped bun.

The black and white burgers will only be sold for a limited time in stores, writes Kotaku.

Would you like to have a bite at ‘good’ and ‘evil’?
