The newly-minted dream house of ‘Architect Barbie’ is a modern, sustainable Malibu beach house draped in the doll’s favorite color: pink.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) crowned Ting Li and Maja Paklar’s design as winner of its AIA Architect Barbie Dream House competition.
The house is designed to be sited on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It features a huge, computer-controlled tower closet and a 1,500-square-foot space for entertainment facilities and a chef’s kitchen.
Solar panels, operable shading devices and energy-saving light fixtures contribute to the house’s green design, a tenet Architect Barbie hopes to embody.
“The concept of this house reflects exactly who Barbie is in her new profession,” the designers wrote. “She has pledged to build an environmentally sustainable home using the principals set forth by USGBC [US Green Building Council] as well as to stay true to all the needs of a classic California girl.”
