Design Studio Proposes A Pop-Up Starbucks Library In Japan

Japanese design studio Nendo has proposed a pop-up library for Starbucks in Tokyo, where patrons can borrow books to learn about their favorite drinks.

Called the ‘Starbucks Espresso Journey’, the shop has been designed to reflect a library setting—encouraging patrons to explore the area and pick up a book to read.

The books found in the store will be specially designed with color-coded covers—nine shades to represent a different espresso drink.

Once customers have chosen a book, they can exchange it at the counter for a cup of coffee, but they would have to retain the book cover that informs them of their coffee choice.

According to Nendo, the concept behind the pop-up shop is to invite visitors to choose a beverage like they would a book—thus creating a link between reading and enjoying a cup of coffee.
