For this purpose, proprietary branch offices with about 15 employees each have been established in Prague and Bratislava. These are supported by a central organizational unit in Munich taking on functions like pricing-, product-, and marketing strategy, vendor network planning, administration, and finances. This unit operates with about 50 employees. It will also oversee representation of the BMW Group in Slovenia which will commence operation by 1 January 2007. Additional branch offices in Bulgaria and Romania will be established as soon as these countries will have joined the EU.
In assuming market responsibility with a proprietary sales and distribution organisation, the BMW Group ensures a tender of persistent first-class quality in a European market increasingly growing together - from Portugal to Hungary, and from Norway to Greece. This concerns the availability of automobiles and the supply with spare parts as well as service. Furthermore, the presence on site allows the group to tap the full potential of the market in a more effective and sustainable way. In the past year, 2,120 automobiles were delivered to customers in the Czech Republic; in Slovakia, sales amounted to 1,130 automobiles. Overall, the countries Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, and Romania represent a sales volume of nearly 10,000 automobiles per year.
Dr. Michael Ganal, board member of BMW AG and in charge of sales, distribution, and marketing: "We are convinced that these countries have a growth potential above average. Within the next five years, we plan to increase our sales in these countries by 50%."
Record sales with innovative design
Innovative design plays a highly significant role for the financial success of the brand name BMW; by the end of May 2006, the company registered an increase in sales by 13.3% over the previous year. The BMW core model series 7, 5, and 3 continue to be the principal drivers of growth. This success is also reflected in numerous awards which BMW was able to win in this year´s red dot design award, amongst them the BMW 3-series limousine.
