Bomb Shelter Turns Into Bustling Underground Club

With Shanghai getting more densely populated every day, it is little wonder that businesses are taking advantage of the real estate in the thousands of underground bomb shelters that dot the Chinese metropolis.

A new nightclub⎯‘The Shelter’⎯has made use of the bomb shelter’s raw industrial design to create a cool, cave-like setting that is part of its appeal.

To get to the club, one will have to weave his or her way down a long, narrow stairway and through a dark, twisting cement tunnel⎯in this case, the journey really is as interesting as the destination.

Before it was a nightclub, the space that The Shelter currently occupies hosted a vegetable market, ice storage facility, massage parlor and public bath house.
